Leaders of Innovation & Strength

One of my biggest fears is approaching people I do not know and merely striking a conversation.

Here is my journey into learning to live outside of my comfort zone. I can learn to face my fears by taking actions in uplifting and representing others.

I need to be unafraid and try, start. We all start with nothing, like in our art. It starts with a desire and then inspiration. My inspiration is learning to overcome my fears in meeting new people by helping others acknowledging their contributions to our communities, families, etc.

I’m actually an artist first and foremost. And in all the professional and volunteer roles I’ve had in different industries, I’ve always found a way to integrate my creativity as an artist in my work. I enjoy collaborating with my friends, as we share our ideas and feedback with the projects and work we do. I might actually be both left and right brained because most of my actual professional roles is quite linear and numbers driven, yet I’ve always found a way to be creative in my process. I have even redesigned a customer experience process which resulted in the team I worked in to get from the very bottom in the black to #1 in the region. It was hard work, a lot of skepticism, negativity, yet rewarding because I love leading by example and being inclusive in a positive way.

My perspective of an artist is not limited to visual art, an artist is someone who has ideas and creates things to bring these ideas into fruition. I feel that is true creativity. And art brings people together, whether to share a message, experience, and/or pleasure.

This project contains in depth insights of how these phenomenal, inspirational role model leaders catalyze change and strengthen their local communities.

Christina Curtis, PhD, MSc

Christina Curtis, PhD, MSc, is associate professor of medicine and genetics and an Endowed Scholar at Stanford University School of Medicine. She is the director of Breast Cancer Translational Research and codirector of the Molecular Tumor Board at the Stanford Cancer Institute, and a Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Investigator at Stanford. She is being honored for her paradigm-shifting research on tumor evolution, including the Big Bang model which explains how treatment-naïve cancers grow in the absence of therapeutic influence. She further developed this fundamental milestone in cancer research to explain the tendency that some cancers have to disseminate and metastasize, with implications for improved patient stratification and emergent diagnostic approaches for early cancer and pre-cancer detection.

Christine articulates how her tenacity and commitment to collaborative scientific research and daily self-care empower her to push forward.

It’s unbelievable how tenacious and committed Christina is to her professional and personal life! Her energy and passion is contagious!
